The International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) offers an independent and inspiring meeting place for audiences and professionals to see a diverse and high-quality program. IDFA offers an alternative to mass entertainment and uniformity, confirming that there is an increasing need in audiences for high-quality films that delve deep and urge us to reflect.

The IDFA has partnered with the Bertha Foundation to support their vision to bring more creative documentaries that deepen, reveal and inspire, to the world. Collectively, they believe in documentaries that bring people closer together and that stand for change by inspiring people to act. The IDFA Bertha Fund focuses on supporting creative filmmakers in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, and Oceania, and is the only fund in the world dedicated solely to stimulating and empowering the creative documentary sector in these regions.

Their documentary production system has been created to support filmmakers from these parts of the world to reach a worldwide audience and present their work at international festivals, markets and on the same television channels as Western documentaries.

This fund takes risks on unknown and seasoned filmmakers alike through a rigorous selection process. This selection process has proven successful time and again, with films and filmmakers breaking through from marginalised positions to taking over the most respected platforms, and winning awards in both cinema and television.

CTA: The IDFA Bertha Fund is currently accepting applications for funding. There's a current selection taking place and the next one will be taking place in the summer of 2022.
